DCFRP Welcome Home Box Scheme
Since March we have been donating brand new goods through our Welcome Home Box Scheme.
The boxes contain everything an individual or a family may need when they are having to move home and start again, or if they have been homeless and been given a property.
Included in the boxes are a kettle, toaster, towels, quilts, pillows, sheets, bedding sets, clothes airer, laundry hamper, tea towels, blankets/throws, cutlery and much more. We also add a cleaning box for household cleaning and a personal hygiene box containing deodratns and shampoos etc. As well as this we also have baby boxes – nappies, wipes, cot bedding, baby bath/shampoo etc.
As children tend to internalise what is happening around them we didn’t want to leave them out. So we will put a little gift bag together for them – bath bombs, their very own cool toothbrush/toothpaste and shampoo for kids and even cute little facemasks.
None of this would have been possible without help from the following people:
Tracey Heath – Community Champion for Morrisons in Plymstock
Sophie Jarvis – Partner & Community Lead at Waitrose & Partners,
Tesco Bags for Life Grant
Lisa Moore – Community Champion at Asda Plymouth
Plymouth City Council Grant Scheme
Although we knew the boxes would be popular we had no idea how desperately needed they are. We are applying for funding on a daily basis in the hope that we will be able to carry this scheme through to the winter months so we can include items like elctric blankets, curtains, rugs and other items needed to make a home cosy.
Of course, this runs alongside the free furniture we give to people in need.
